A vintage piece of Norwegian travel history.
The road twists upward through western Norway, waterfalls dropping from the mountainsides as the valley grows steeper around you. Then you reach Stalheim and suddenly Nærøydalen opens below — an enormous sweep of mountains, water and green valley stretching into the distance. You and your traveling companions crowd toward the view with cameras out, knowing suddenly that whatever you've seen so far on the journey has taken a back seat.
The first Stalheim Hotel opened in 1885 along the historic travel route between Oslo and Bergen. Its spectacular setting soon made the hotel a destination in its own right, drawing international travelers to a landscape that had already inspired generations of painters and writers.
This print is reproduced from a high-resolution scan of an original vintage luggage label, preserving the typography, color and subtle character of the original piece.
