About Local Intrigue

Local Intrigue is a Seattle-based design concern with a love of travel, an appreciation for memorable design, and a particular fascination with the character of places.

Local Intrigue grew out of those interests. It's a collection of vintage and contemporary graphics celebrating cities, towns, destinations, and the things that make them memorable.

A little history worth keeping.

On the vintage side, an extensive archive of original luggage labels, hotel decals, and travel ephemera. These small pieces of graphic history were once a way for hotels and destinations to advertise themselves—and for travelers to show the world where they'd been.

What's fascinating is how much personality these designs pack into such a small space. The typography, illustrations, colors, and sometimes wonderfully exaggerated promises tell stories about places and about the era in which they were created.

Through Local Intrigue's Vintage Travel Collection, these designs are brought back into view, carefully reproducing them as artwork for today's walls. The collection is drawn from a much larger archive, with new discoveries and destinations to be added over time.

A fresh look at familiar places.

The Locales Collection takes a different approach. These are original designs inspired by the cities, towns, landmarks, local expressions, and peculiarities that give a place its identity.

Some are nostalgic, some are playful, and a few might make more sense if you've actually been there. That's part of the fun.

You'll find them on apparel, accessories, and other everyday objects—a way to celebrate a hometown, remember a trip, or share an inside joke with someone who gets it.

The person behind the graphics.

I'm Fritz, my wife Jody and I love to travel; be it road, rail, water or air, and our sweet Wheaten girl Monkey also loves to travel but despite our best immersion tactics, has yet to express much interest in design.

Local Intrigue is a new, hopefully ongoing creative project for me. I hope you like what you see and would like to have some Local Intrigue in your life.

Thanks for stopping by!
