Opened in 1906, the Hotel Excelsior became one of Rome's great luxury hotels and helped establish Via Veneto as an international gathering place. By the mid-20th century, the avenue had become synonymous with the celebrities, filmmakers, journalists and café society of La Dolce Vita — a glamorous Roman world in which the Excelsior occupied center stage.
