Opened in 1899 on the banks of the Nile, the Cataract Hotel became one of the great stopping places for sojourners exploring Upper Egypt. This circa-1920 luggage label was created during that golden age of Nile travel, when the hotel welcomed guests arriving by river on journeys between Cairo and the ancient sites farther south.
